COLUMBIA, MD, APRIL 13, 2023 – The Howard County Association of REALTORS® (HCAR) is pleased to announce its continued partnership with the Howard County Executive and Howard County Council to celebrate National Fair Housing Month. At HCAR’s request and in recognition of our collective commitment to equitable and inclusive change, proclamations have been issued by both the County Executive and the County Council to officially affirm April 2023 as Fair Housing Month in Howard County.
Realtor® associations around the country are honoring the 55th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act aimed to further nationwide progress toward eradication of inequities in our housing system in the United States.
The National Association of Realtors® (NAR) has continued to make strides in becoming a champion for the goals of the Fair Housing Act. With this year’s theme - Reflect. Repair. Renew. Because That’s Who We R® - NAR has compiled current and previous efforts to create an all-inclusive, online Fair Housing Month Resource Guide that includes: a social media toolkit, events throughout April, book recommendations, video recommendations, podcasts, fair housing journalism, NAR Fair Housing Grants, and fair housing additional resources. Lastly, mark your calendar for the April 25, 2023, Facebook Live Event: At What Price? Overcoming Barriers to Homeownership. You will hear about barriers to homeownership and meet NAR’s 2023 Fair Housing Champions.
HCAR is honoring Fair Housing Month locally with a comprehensive educational campaign, several events designed to raise awareness, and providing available resources and information to inform prospective homebuyers of their rights under Fair Housing law. The association’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee has launched the HCAR Agents of Change program to its over 2,000 members to empower them to complete NAR’s three academic certifications: Fair Haven Simulation, At Home With Diversity Certification, and C2EX Designation. In addition, HCAR invites all members and the community to attend HCAR’s Consumer Housing Resource Fair on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 10 AM.
Every April, REALTORS® throughout the country recognize the anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968 with educational events and historical reflections designed to raise awareness and teach about housing discrimination and segregation of past and present. Additionally, realtors® recommit to expanding equity in access to housing for all residents. Visit this link to learn more about the nationwide Fair Housing initiatives developed by NAR.
