COLUMBIA, MD, APRIL 23, 2024 – The Howard County Association of REALTORS® (HCAR) is pleased to announce its continued partnership with the Office of Howard County Executive Calvin Ball to celebrate National Fair Housing Month. At HCAR’s request and in recognition of our collective commitment to equitable and inclusive change, a proclamation has been issued by the County Executive to officially affirm April 2024 as Fair Housing Month in Howard County.
Realtor® associations around the country are honoring the 56th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act aimed to further nationwide progress toward eradication of inequities in our housing system in the United States.
The National Association of Realtors® (NAR) has continued to make strides in becoming a champion for the goals of the Fair Housing Act. With NAR’s Fair Housing theme - Reflect. Repair. Renew. Because That’s Who We R® - the national association has compiled current and previous efforts to create an all-inclusive, online Fair Housing Month Resource Guide that includes: a social media toolkit, events throughout April, book recommendations, video recommendations, podcasts, fair housing journalism, NAR Fair Housing Grants, and fair housing additional resources. Lastly, mark your calendar for the April 24, 2024, Event: Building Business and Community on a Fair Housing Foundation. You will learn about how REALTORS® are opening doors to homeownership in their communities.
HCAR is honoring Fair Housing Month locally with a comprehensive educational campaign, several events designed to raise awareness, and providing available resources and information to inform prospective homebuyers of their rights under Fair Housing law. The association’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee has launched the HCAR Agents of Change program to its over 2,000 members to empower them to complete NAR’s three academic certifications: Fair Haven Simulation, At Home With Diversity Certification, and Implicit Bias.
Every April, REALTORS® throughout the country recognize the anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968 with educational events and historical reflections designed to raise awareness and teach about housing discrimination and segregation of past and present.
